Lugshar A sound which I sought for a long, long time now in Polish avant music. A proof that it is possible to revive ethnic motiffs and make them timely, without it sounding like a museum or a wicked misalliance.

The album is not without its blind spots, there are moments where it sweeps—both for the good and for the bad. But hearing the evolution that Królówczana Smuga's has done yet, I can't help but excite myself for what is there to come!

Nowadays, when 440 years have passed since Biłgoraj was granted with city rights, the figure of the founder – Adam Gorajski - still remains hidden in the shadows of his merits. And when Mary Magdalene, saint of Catholics and Orthodox, becomes the patron of Biłgoraj, it seems that no one remembers how it all begun…
As the leader of the Calvinists of Lublin, Gorajski stood in defense of Wojciech of Kalisz, who was persecuted by the Jesuits. Once he took over the Catholic church, he transformed it into a congregation. In those days, Biłgoraj was the center of many Orthodox and Calvinist theologians conventions. However, after few centuries people seem to forget about the Protestant idea that accompanied the birth of the city. "Biełgoraj Kalwińskiego Adama" is a pretext to get into the analysis of our collective identity, pay attention to diversity, multiculturalism and the phenomena of the process which shaped us – Poles.
Musical interpretations of selected, title events and periods in Gorajski's life are only an encouragement for a further, critical celebration of the roots of our identity and the conscious creation of the future. In terms of structure, the music whose narration is guided by the sounds of the guitar is supposed to bring associations with distant times - there are many references to "Biłgoraj" beginnings and local folklore, hidden under layers of deformed sounds resembling old, dusty and neglected instruments found in the attic of the great-grandfather or unearthed in a tomb hidden in the forest.


Dziś, kiedy mija 440 lat od nadania praw miejskich Biłgorajowi, postać fundatora – Adama Gorajskiego, „jednego ze światłych przedstawicieli swojej epoki”, pozostaje w cieniu swych zasług. I gdy patronem Biłgoraja zostaje święta katolików i prawosławnych - Maria Magdalena – wydaje się, że nikt już nie pamięta o początkach „Biełgoraja”. Gorajski jako przywódca kalwinów lubelskich, stanął w obronie prześladowanego przez jezuitów Wojciecha z Kalisza, a przejąwszy katolicki kościół, przekształcił go w zbór, sam Biełgoraj zaś był ośrodkiem wielu wspólnych zjazdów teologów prawosławnych i kalwińskich. Parę wieków wystarczyło, by zapomnieć o idei protestanckiej towarzyszącej narodzinom miasta.
"Biełgoraj Kalwińskiego Adama" stanowi motywację do wgłębienia się w analizę naszej tożsamości zbiorowej, zwrócenia uwagi na różnorodność i wielokulturowość - na zjawiska towarzyszące procesowi kształtowania nas - Polaków.

Muzyczne interpretacje wybranych, tytułowych wydarzeń i okresów z życia Gorajskiego to jedynie zachęta do dalszej, krytycznej celebracji korzeni naszej tożsamości i świadomego kreowania przyszłości. Pod względem strukturalnym muzyka, której narracja prowadzona jest dźwiękami gitary, ma nasuwać skojarzenia z czasami odległymi - odnaleźć można tutaj wiele odniesień do „biłgorajskich” początków oraz tutejszego folkloru, ukrytych pod warstwami zdeformowanych dźwięków przypominających stare, zakurzone i zaniedbane instrumenty, znalezione na strychu pradziada lub odkopane w ukrytej w lesie mogile.
